Product Info Mechanical protectors

Our lineup includes ball-type Shock Guards, which trip when the ball pops out of the pocket and spins freely when the load exceeds a set value; friction-type Torque Limiters, which slip when a load greater than the friction force is applied; and the Torque Keeper and Mini Keeper, slipping clutches and brakes that are suitable for continuous slippage.

Types of Mechanical Overload Protectors

Ball type (Shock Guard )

Power is transmitted through the ball.

When the load exceeds the set value, the ball pops out of the pocket and overruns (trips), and shutting off the power transmission.

Once the overload is removed, it will automatically or manually reset, and it also has high repeat tripping accuracy.

Friction type (Torque Limiter ・Torque Keeper ・Mini Keeper )

The frictional force is used to transmit power.

When a load exceeding the frictional force is applied, it slips and shuts off the power.

If the overload is removed, it will automatically reset, but it will not be able to return to original position. It has a simpler structure and is cheaper than the ball type.

Difference from Shear-pin

In the protection method using shear pins, the load increases and exceeds the strength of the pin, the pin breaks, thus shutting off the torque.

Although it is inexpensive, automatic reset is not possible and pin replacement work is required. The set torque cannot be adjusted.

Tsubaki's mechanical overload protectors can be automatically reset in any method, reducing maintenance manpower.

The torque to shut off the power can be set steplessly, so adjusts can be made according to the equipment.

Torque Limiter

The center member (sprocket/gear) is pinched by friction facings and pressurized to transmit torque by frictional force.
This is a traditional type in which the center member slips when a load exceeding the set torque is applied.
