Overrunning
An application to alternately repeat the conditions where the inner and outer races of the cam clutch engage to transmit the torque and where they continue spinning around depending on the difference in the rotation speed or rotation direction. The operation is the same as the free wheeling of a car.
Indexing
Also called rotational intermittent feeding. The constant, cyclical motion of the outer race is converted into intermittent rotational motion and transmitted to the inner race (shaft). This application repeats engagement and overrunning at high frequency.
Back stopping
This mechanism prevents reverse rotation. The cam clutch overruns while the machine is operating, and engages to stop the occasional reverse rotation.
