Applications Cam Clutch - 21. Squid fishing machine
Application
Overrunning
An application to alternately repeat the conditions where the inner and outer races of the cam clutch engage to transmit the torque and where they continue spinning around depending on the difference in the rotation speed or rotation direction. The operation is the same as the free wheeling of a car.

Applications
Layout
Engagement of cam clutches transmits the rotation of the hydraulic motor to the drum, winding the wire rope.
When the hydraulic motor is run in reverse at constant speed, the drum is pulled by the waves and the weight of the wire rope. The cam clutches engage when the speed of pulling the wire rope becomes faster than the motor speed.
Purpose of Use and Operation Overview
Hoisting
Engagement of cam clutches transmits the rotation of the hydraulic motor to the drum, winding the wire rope.
Wire roll-out
The hydraulic motor is rotating in the direction opposite to the winding direction when the hooks are released to the ocean. At this time, the cam clutches are overrunning.
The wire rope is pulled by its own weight and the resistance of the waves, making the hooks go out into the ocean faster than when it started.
When the wire rope rolls out faster than the motor speed, the cam clutches engage and the hooked wire rope is released into the ocean via the rotation speed of the hydraulic motor.
Advantage of using the cam clutch
- ・Cam clutches engage and overrun depending on the direction of rotation.
- ・Eliminates the need for extra control devices, making the whole system compact.
