MI Series  Handling Precautions

  • 1. Swing arm, etc. to be mounted on the outer race should be inlet with the outer circumference B dimension of the outer race (see here) and securely attached with bolts of strength category 10.9 or higher to the tapped holes on the outer race end face. The tolerance of its inlet section is recommended to be H6 or H7.
  • 2. Shaft diameter tolerance of h6 or h7 is recommended.
  • 3. Always use parallel keys (MI750 and above are delivered with a key) and keep a clearance between the top of key and keyway.
  • 4. Please use type-2 of JIS B1301-1959 (old JIS) parallel keys. (MI750 and above includes special keys which have a special height dimension. The groove depth of the key against the shaft should be in accordance with JIS. ) However, the relationship between shaft diameter and key dimensions may not be as per JIS.
  • 5. When inserting the shaft, apply pressure only to the face of the inner race only. Never hit the outer race.
  • 6. When using for indexing, note the following points to improve feed accuracy.
    • (1)Use an end plate on the shaft end, tighten the inner race end face sufficiently, and ensure that the key and keyway are fully aligned.
    • (2)Use the brake and backstop cam clutch together. If the expected accuracy is relatively rough, one or the other may be sufficient.
  • 7. If the clutch receives shock loads or is designed for use at full torque capacity, it is better to use a hardened key and shaft. (Keys supplied with MI750 and above are hardened keys. ) Also check the shaft strength.
  • 8. External thrust load should be supported by other devices, not by the Cam Clutch.
  • 9. Oil is not sealed in at the time of shipment. Supply an appropriate amount of oil before use.
